Influence of Science on Nutrition- Jinju

<Influence of Science on Nutrition>

 Some people think that science has bad effects on nutrition. In fact, there still remain a lot of unknown substances that cannot be explained all action of nutrients by using scientific knowledge. Also in some aspects, the nutrition science is ambiguous because the results may depend on individual person. Nevertheless, I think science has influenced on nutrition positively.

Not only do in the laboratory, in order to research various kinds of foods we need standards for it. We cannot simply compare the foods each other by color, flavor and so on. There have been used not calculated remedies but the folk remedies that have come from ancestors such as the combinations of foods and the food that we eat when we are sick. Thanks to the development of analyzing technology, we are able to identify not only the amount of nutrients but the kind of substance which really works in the foods.

In the article ‘Defining personalized nutrition’ by BASF, they explain how to moderate the nutrition individually. People tend to choose their diets according to their personal taste. Moreover, their metabolisms are different from each other so the same food might have different effects on them. By using scientific analysis, this can help people to make personalized decision for what they eat and compare with fresh ingredient.

Even so the same food has different effects on the individuals, they can adjust their dietary list from the number based data. The number data do not have information of allergic substances.  People can just avoid that kind of ingredient and alternate with another that has similar nutrition information instead. For example, you can choose turkey meat or pork meat as protein source instead of chicken if you have allergy to chicken.

The nutrition research suggests us to balance what we eat. If you want to make smart decision, it is recommended not to follow just as so-called experts said. The effect of science in nutrition can be both positive and negative depending on the usage of information.

 I think the result of the nutrition science can affect both positively and negatively depending on the data user. Therefore, once we try to use information critically, then we can make reasonable decision. I believe it is the matter of taking information selectively in this argument. We can just collect facts that we need and apply to our real lives.
