The Danger
of Deforestation
The population of humans is increasing
day after day rapidly especially nowadays. The global population has grown from
1 billion in 1800 to 7 billion in 2012. If the global population is still
increasing at the same rate, the population will reach 9.6 billion by mid-2050,
so that will cause many problems. One of these problem is deforestation.
What is Deforestation?
Deforestation
is the action or process of clearing the trees and transforming a forest into
cleared land. The main cause of this problem is the unnormal increase of population.
How could that cause deforestation? While the population of humans is
increasing, more food and more lands are needed. First, to provide food, the forests
are transformed into farms by cutting down the trees and throwing the animals which live there out of the forests or even killing them, so that would provide an enormous
space to make farms which can produce a large amount of food that could feed
the current population satisfactorily. Second, to provide lands, people ruin the
forests by changing them into cities that could give enough lands for the current
population. The question is What are the consequences of these acts?
There are many problems that could occur
when people continue to destroy the forests. First, forests remove
approximately 20% of the amount of carbon dioxide, and provide oxygen instead.
By continuing to destroy the forests, the amount of greenhouse gases will
increase 20% that will contribute
to cause global warming which would make our planet more heat according to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. As a result, the
amount of sea ice in the Arctic will continue to lose, so the cities that are
near the ocean will be in risk. Second, forests provide habitats for many
animals, so destroy forests will destroy animal’s homes as well. Many kind of
animals will be in endangered list. Finally, many rare plants live in the
forests as a home including Baobob trees which are one of the early trees in
the world. All the plants will be cleared away when people destroy the forests.
What should we do?
Solutions to Deforestation:
Ending deforestation is our best chance
to conserve wildlife, so how can we end it? First, governments should set lows
that could protect the forests by making cut down the trees illegal, and limiting
the size that the farmers can use to plant their plants. Second, the media
should encourage the people to protect the forests by demonstrating the
downsides of destroying the forests.
In conclusion, forests are important part of this planet. If people continue to destroy them, our planet will be in risk in many ways, so we need to protect them and encourage people to do it as well. We are part of it, so let’s save it.
