About Uber's new technology
Recently, a lot people, who do not have many means of transportation, use Uder system which is able to take you from your current location to your destination. Also, if you want to use this application, you need to call a driver using an application. Also, you need to type in your personal information before using this application. Therefore, in recent years lacking of personal information has become a big problem in our society because you need to enter personal information when using this application. On the other hand, Uber has introduced a technology called “Greyball” to protect the driver’s personal information from government and organisation. It also has a function to prevent other companies from using this Uder’s Application contrary to the terms of use. Also, according to the New York Times, “which earlier reported the program, Greyball helped Uber identify regulators and supplied them with dummy versions of the app showing fake cars trawling city streets”. Therefore, most people think that people who use the Uder application are protected by new technology.
From my view point, this security system is not safety and it is not able to protect completely all personal information. For example, if people depend on this security system, there is a possibility to be at risk because if this system is hacked by someone, all personal information lacked out in society. Therefore, I think that it should avoid this problem by introducing a system that dose not need to input personal information. As a result, I think that more people will use Uder in the future. Also, if Uder become famous, there are people who become hypersensitive because some people do not like Uder technology to disturb own business like taxi driver or others. According the article How Uder Deceive the authorities Worldwide,”Uber’s use of Greyball was recorded on video in late 2014, when Erich England, a code enforcement inspector in Portland, Ore., tried to hail an Uber car downtown in a sting operation against the company”. Many people criticise this application indeed and many incidents occurred in our society. Furthermore, a lot of people involved as a result of the incident. Therefore, I believe that it is difficult to simultaneously ensure the existence of convenient services and people’s safety in our society. We have a solution to solve this problem for the future.
