A victory for democracy in South Korea -Lizzy

A victory for democracy in South Korea

"Korea is a democratic republic. The sovereign power of the Republic of Korea resides with the people, and all power comes from the people. "
- Article 1 of Constitution of South Korea

On March 10, 2017, we confirmed the stern value of Article 1 of the Constitution. We have been protesting to impeach the president over corruption for a long time. When the judge made impeachment pronouncement for President Park, the people who have been participating in the assembly were crying tears of joy. It was a dramatic reversal. A funny country whose president was shaping her hair when the young students slowly drowned in the cold waters suddenly receives the envy of the world. South Korea showed the world what democracy should be like.

An angry citizen pulled down President Park without any violence. The resignation of the president with a massive peace demonstration lasting several months shows how much younger democracy in Korea has evolved. Our democracy which was won by the blood and sweat of the people in 1987 was not only a step backward but proved to be the most powerful democracy in the world. The protagonist who defended today 's democracy is the people. For the righteous Republic of Korea, the people raised candles and fulfilled the sovereign responsibility.

Citizens who filled the streets with candles and cried at the top of their voice for the resignation of the president did not just demand the impeachment of the president remaining year of her year. They resisted the political order that has dominated Korea for decades. The decades-long political order is the "Park Chung-hee regime." The dictator Park Jung - hee transformed Korea into an exporting power and reduced taxes promoted anti - labor policies, and favored other government policies for the conglomerates.

To sum up, the impeachment Park Geun-hye is not the end but the beginning. Creating an entirely new Republic of Korea has just begun. We must create a just democratic nation where all 60 years of corruption are cleared, fought with privileges and discrimination rooted in all sectors of society, and all live together well. We are all Korean, and all of us are Korean people. Now it is time to end the age of conflict and to create a new Republic of Korea with the spirit of democracy constitution.
